A conman impersonating an LIC agent allegedly stole gold jewellery and cash after outwitting a 70-year-old woman at a house in New Tagore Nagar area on Sunday.
In his complaint, Daljeet Singh Parmar, a resident of New Tagore Nagar, said, he left home for his shop at 9 am on Sunday. Soon, a conman impersonating an LIC agent entered his house, while his mother, Mohinder Kaur, was present in the house.
Parmar alleged that the conman told his mother that he came to handover a cheque for Rs 11,000 to them, and asked her to call other members of the family. He alleged as she went to another room to make a call to him, the accused opened the almirah and stole gold jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh and Rs 60,000 in cash from it, before fleeing.
Inspector Vinod Kumar, station house officer (SHO), at Division Number 4 police station, said the accused was riding a white scooter, adding that efforts were on to identify the accused.
The Division Number 4 police have registered a case under sections 380 and 457 in this context against unidentified accused.
