The body of Satwinder Singh alias Happy (26), a resident of Dahmesh Nagar in Faridkot, is yet to be recovered from the Sirhind canal in which he had allegedly jumped on Saturday evening.

The family of the deceased alleged Satwinder was sitting with his friends near the canal when two police officials from the Faridkot narcotic cell reached the spot and allegedly thrashed the victim.

Varinder Singh, his brother, said the victim tried to flee the police and jumped into the canal.
"We have made a police complaint regarding the issue but no action has been taken against the officials responsible for the incident,"said his wife.

Satwinder, a daily wager, is survived by his wife and 3-year-old son.

However, Harinder Singh, incharge of the Faridkot narcotic cell refuted the allegations of the family. "Satwinder had about four cases against him and was a drug addict. Our officials are not at fault as they did not even touch him," he said.

The district police have started investigation in the case and action will be taken after looking into the facts.
