The Punjab Police informed the Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday that 20 accused, including Nishan Singh, had been arrested in the Faridkot minor girl abduction-and-rape case and the investigation was at the final stage, after which the outcome would be informed to the court.

Faridkot deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jaswinder Pal informed the court of justice Jitendra Chauhan through his report on Monday that the challan in the case would be filed soon in the trial court. He also informed that as per the court's directions, the Faridkot police were carrying out regular patrolling near the girl's house in order to ensure her family members' protection of life and liberty.

The victim, a Class-10 student, was abducted by Nishan, a resident of New Harindra Nagar, Faridkot, and his three accomplices from her Faridkot house at gunpoint on September 24; when her parents tried to intervene, they were thrashed by the accused.

The FIR was registered on the same day at the Faridkot police station against Nishan. Later, the Punjab Police had arrested Nishan and rescued the minor girl from Baga beach in Goa on October 21.

The police officer also denied all allegations levelled against the police by the girl's parents of favouring the accused, in their petition filed before the high court.

The case would now come up for hearing on December 17.
