Faridkot civil surgeon caught taking bribe

A Faridkot vigilance bureau team arrested district civil surgeon Dr Baldev Singh Sahota while accepting Rs 20,000 in bribe from Jagseer Ram, a pharmacist at Muktsar community health centre, here on Friday.


"The civil surgeon was arrested from his office. He had demanded Rs 50,000 in bribe for giving a favorable report in a departmental inquiry against the pharmacist, but the deal was finalised in Rs 20,000," said Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, DSP vigilance Faridkot, who led the team.

"We have registered a case (FIR number 3) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Other Sections have also been added," Sidhu said.

Punjab Pollution Control Board SDO Raghbir Singh and Dharmvir Singh, deputy education officer (elementary), Faridkot, were roped in as witnesses to the raid. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Kotkapura, acted as the third witness.

Jagseer was named in a case involving the death of a child at a private hospital.
