The body of Shalinder Singh, 26, who had reportedly died in an accident in October 6 in Saudi Arabia was cremated at his native Dhurkot village, here, on Sunday. The body had been brought to the village on Saturday, after a three-month delay.
The news of Shalinder's death was received barely after a month of his arrival in Saudi Arabia.
Shalinder, son of Gura Singh, belonged to a poor family. His body had been held up in the foreign country for unexplained technical reasons, the family claimed.
"The family approached me for help in bringing back the dead body to India and I established contact with the Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia. Initially, the body could not be located and the owner of the company in which the man worked did not cooperate," claimed Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, senior Akali leader.
He was also in Dhurkot village on Sunday to attend the cremation.
Shalinder had left for Saudi Arabia four months ago and was running an electrician shop in Mudki, Ferozepur, before leaving.
