A 62-year-old farmer was killed on Wednesday after two groups clashed over a dispute regarding a common way, which goes to fields at Kotla Mehar Singh Wala village, under the jurisdiction of Baghapurana police station. The police have booked five farmers, including two unidentified people, in this connection.

Partap Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Baghapurana police station, said the victim was identified as Lachhman Singh, a resident of Kotla Mehar Singh Wala. "The victim's son, Pritam Singh, complained to the police that a dispute on the common way was continuing for the past several months. Another group of the farmers had barricaded the way due to which my father was not able to go to our fields," the SHO said.

He added that both groups were called for a meeting to solve the issue but during the meeting they started fighting. "Lachhman Singh died on the spot. We recovered the body and brought it to a hospital, Moga, for autopsy. After the post-mortem, the body handed over to the family. Further investigation is on," the SHO said.

A case has been registered against Darshan Singh, his son Mandeep Singh, Jaspal Singh Teetu, all residents of Kotla Mehar Singh Wala, and two unidentified people under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
