Farmers continued to protest outside the deputy commissioner office here on the second consecutive day on Friday on the issue of release of their colleagues arrested in connection with the death of an ASI at Jeobala village.

Protesters who have rallied under the aegis of Kissan Sanghrash Committee blocked the entry gates of the DC office, asserting that their protest would continue till their demands' were met.

Committee president Satnam Singh Pannu said that 11 farmers were detained in ASI death case in March this year and demanded their immediate and unconditional release. He also demanded that cases against farmers should be withdrawn.

Police had arrested 11 farmers leaders on charge of murder after the death of the ASI and named a total of 44 persons in the case.
Though the Punjab government has ordered a judicial probe into the case, farmer activists were demanding that the probe should be conducted by a sitting district and sessions judge.

The protesters also wish to meet chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for resolving their long-pending demands and also want a meeting with Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini regarding problems faced by farmers vis-à-vis police.
