Members of the agrarian community in the border areas under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Committee have decided to show black flags to the SAD-BJP candidate in villages besides burning the effigies of the SAD-BJP alliance government in the state to protest against “maltreatment” of farmers.

They are anguished over lathicharge on farmers who were protesting outside the office of the chief engineer, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, in February, registration of a case and subsequent incarceration of some of them. Satnam Singh Pannu, president, Kisan Sangharsh Committee, while addressing a gathering at Chabba village, said the episode had bared the real face of the SAD-BJP government, which claimed to be profarmer. He said the affected farmers observed ‘black Baisakhi’.

“Farmers will hold protest marches in villages during which effigies of the state government will be burnt,” Pannu said.
