Members of the Bharti Kissan Union (Ekta Sidhupur)held a dharna near the District Administrative Complex on Tuesday to protest against the state and central governments for failure to link minimum support price(MSP) with price index of crops.

The BKU workers led by district president Gurmeet Singh Rudki also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through deputy commissioner.
Addressing the protesting farmers, Rudki said that NDA government had promised to initiate schemes for the welfare of the farmers during elections but had forgotten them after coming to power.

Saying that the farmers had high hopes from the BJP government, Rudki added that they had been demanding that recommendations of the Swaminathan report be implemented.

He said the government had played a joke on the farmers by enhancing the MSP of paddy crop by `50 per quintal while the central government had agreed that the prices of essential goods had increased by 20%.
