Commenting on the Congress performance in the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections, senior Congress leader Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa on Wednesday expressed satisfaction and maintained that his party had strongly made its presence felt.
He however claimed that the Congress had been successful in eroding the SAD base in some of its strongholds in Punjab.
He said that the Congress won eight out of a total 17 panchayat samiti seats in Sri Hargobindpur, giving a neck and neck fight to the SAD.
Lashing out at chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Bajwa said that they should hang their heads in shame over the alleged use of money, intoxicants, irregularities and misuse of government machinery in these elections.
Bajwa demanded a high-level probe into the alleged irregularities during the polling at certain booths in Gurdaspur district.
