The Amritsar city police have arrested Kishan Kumar, a resident of Verka, in connection with the death of a pregnant woman identified as Neelam Sharma, whose corpse was found hanging at the residence of her in-laws.
The police have booked three persons including Kishan Kumar and the other two have been identified as Vishal Kumar, husband, and Pooja, sister-in-law, of the deceased, all residents of Verka, under sections 304-B/ 34 IPC at A Division Police Station.
The case has been registered on the complaint of Suresh Kumar, a resident of Verka, and a brother of the deceased. Sources said that the deceased Suman Sharma had got married four months ago to the accused Vishal Kumar and was three months pregnant. They added that this was her second marriage as the first one had ended in a divorce.
The complainant has charged the accused with harassing his sister and beating her for bringing inadequate dowry. "The complainant has alleged that he received a call from Kishan Kumar that his sister had been killed. He has charged the accused with killing his sister for dowry by strangulating her," said Inspector Jagdish Raj, SHO, Verka Police Station, who is investigating the matter.
"We have arrested the father-in-law of the deceased in this regard. The investigations so far have revealed that this was the second marriage of the deceased. The case is being thoroughly probed to find out the actual reasons behind the woman's death," said the SHO. He added that corpse of the deceased had been handed over to her kin after conducting the postmortem.
