Father- son duo stabs man to death

A man, along with his son, stabbed a labour contractor to death in Jagdish Colony of Dhandhari area on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The elder of the accused duo suspected that the labour contractor had illicit relations with his wife.

The accused were in an inebriated condition at the time of committing the crime. The Focal Point police have booked the duo for murder.

The deceased has been identified as Nandu (35), a resident of Jagdish Colony. The accused Subhash Chand Verma and his son Dharminder Verma are at large.

The police have registered a case on the statement of Narinder Kumar, a friend of the deceased. Narinder told the police that he was present at the spot where Subhash and Dharminder killed Nandu. Giving details, Narinder stated that when he reached Jagdish Colony, Subhash and his son Dharminder were already present there and accusing Nandu of having illicit relationship with the wife of Subhash.

The accused stabbed Nandu in the stomach and chest, following which he died on the spot.
Spokesperson of Ludhiana police inspector Kamaldeep Singh said the body had been sent to the civil hospital for the post-mortem. He said that the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.

Man ends life, wife, in-laws booked for abetment to suicide

Ludhiana: Harassed allegedly by his wife and in-laws, a man, Kulwinder Singh, committed suicide by jumping into the canal. The Daba police on Monday registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kulwinder's wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law on the statement of victim's father.

In his complaint Paramjit Singh of Mohalla Guru Gobind Singh Nagar said his son Kulwinder Singh got married to Gurpreet Kaur alias Priti around seven years ago and they had two children. On July 18, Gurpreet after a feud with Kulwinder went to her maternal house. She was demanding divorce from Kulwinder.

He said on July 22, Kulwinder went to his in-laws' house to bring back his wife but did not return. On July 25, they had filed a missing person's report with the Daba police. On July 27, someone informed them that body of Kulwinder had been recovered from canal near the Bharowal Power Plant.

Paramjit alleged that Gurpreet, her mother Ranjit Kaur and brother Narinder Singh had been harassing his son.

Sub-inspector Kamal Dutt at Daba police station said they were looking for the accused.

Prisoner hangs self in jail

Ludhiana: A convict serving life term at Ludhiana central jail committed suicide by hanging self from a grill in bathroom on Tuesday morning. He was mentally upset.

The deceased has been identified as Surjit Singh (59), a resident of Dasuya. He was lodged in the jail since 2009 in a murder case.

According to jail officials, Surjit was suffering from depression and was admitted to the jail hospital to days ago. At around 4.30 am on Tuesday, Surjit went to the bathroom and hanged himself from the grill of the bathroom with his turban.

Other inmates raised an alarm and jail staff sent the body to the civil hospital for the postmortem. The postmortem was conducted by a board of doctors.

Meanwhile, the Division 7 police have initiated proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC and informed his family.
