A plumber, Harbans Lal, drowned into a well in Gandhi Nagar locality at Pathankot on Sunday morning.when they were trying to fit some pipes in the well in Gandhi Nagar Locality.
A plumber and his son fell into a deep well in Pathankot on Sunday morning when they were trying to fit some pipes in the well in Gandhi Nagar Locality.
The son however managed to climb up with the help of some pipes while father identified as Harbans Lal drowned even after hours long rescue operation begun by local administration and Army.
Harbans Lal and his son were hired by some locality members to clear the chocked pipes fitted in an age old well who were doing their job by sitting on the slab which was put to cover the well when the slab suddenly broke down and both fell into the well.
The son Kamal who could come out with the help of some pipes raised alarm and soon locals gathered and began efforts to bring Harbans Lal out but failed due to the depth and darkness of the well.
The locals soon called on the administration which sent Fire brigade vehicles toflush out the water of the well but failed.SDM Amit Mahajan and Local MLA Ashwani Sharma along with Executive magistrate Yash Pal also reached on the spot and requested Army headquarter for a help who pressed experts to the site.
The efforts failed many a times as water level could not be brought down despite three
evacuating water pumps used to empty the well.
Late in the evening as the water receded with the help of some submersible pumps the body came in the sight which was brought out by some youths who entered into the well.
Kamal who was seen desperate to bring out his father had also joined the operation but was seen sad when his father's dead body was brought late in the evening.
I and my father were sitting on the slab and every thing was all right when suddenly we fell down deep into thewell he recalled the incident. I lost my father he rued.DSP City Manoj Kumar said that the body will be handed over to theparents after a postmortem.
