Fazilka Heritage Festival begins

The 4-day-long 8th Fazilka Heritage Festival started here on Friday. The festival is a community initiative started by the Graduates Welfare Association of Fazilka in 2006. This year, the event is being organised on the theme of “voter awareness”. Skits and awareness lectures are being organised for voter awareness.

Over 10,000 people will take a joint pledge to exercise their franchise on last two days in the presence of district administrative officers.

This year, the event is being held at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Park. Food Zone, Art and Craft Zone and Cultural Zone are the three major areas of attraction.

The main attraction at the food zone are the various milk and other f ro z en food products on display by the Food Technology Park.

Highly subsidised food at Rs 20 per meal has also been made available for the public.

On the third night, dedicated to artists of Fazilka, two prominent citizens Laxman Dost and Amrit Sachdeva shall be coffered with special appreciation award for documenting the history of Fazilka and also reviving the lost theatre culture at Fazilka.

Pooja Sharma, a journalist, Ashok Kukkar, in the field of social service, Vijay Verma for his outstanding contribution to make Fazilka a smoke-free and Vikram Shukla in the field of music and performing art were honoured.
