Fazilka residents to sit on hunger strike for Raghuwar Bhawan

Residents of the town will sit on hunger strike on Monday to demand inclusion of the 113-year-old Raghuwar Bhawan in the state heritage list and its development as a tourist site.

Laxman Dost, a former member of the MC and a social activist, who had written a book on the history of Fazilka and has been leading the campaign fol the bhawan, said that they had been agitating on the issue for the past many days, but all in vain. So, not they decided to intensify their agitation by going on hunger strike.

As many as 51 men and women sat on a dharna and held a procession in the city in favour of their demand. A prominent citizen of the city Munshi Ram Aggarwal had established the Raghuwar Bhawan in 1901 along with a garden for cultural activities. "Raghuwar Bhawan is the oldest building of the town and needed to be preserved but, sadly, it has been lying in a dilapidated condition and no one in the government is bothered to protect it," rued Dost.
