FDI in retail sector, problems, prospect of farming discussed

In a first of its kind event, the departments of commerce and economics at University College, Ghanaur, organised a two-day national seminar on FDI in retail sector, and problems and prospects of Punjab agriculture.

It is one of the first national seminars to be held at the undergraduate level in the newly opened constituent colleges of Punjabi University.

With his trademark effervescent charm, principal Surjit Singh Bhatti welcomed all the dignitaries and delegates.

AS Chawla, registrar, Punjabi University, Patiala, hailed the efforts of the college. Being a rural area, the work being done for the uplift of the students was all the more laudable, according to him.

HL Verma, pro-V-C, GJU, Hisar, in his keynote address, talked at length about the controversies surrounding FDI in retail sector.

He claimed that in order to understand the pros and cons of FDI, a deep analysis of the subject was required.

In his presidential address, GS Batra, School of Management, Punjabi University, Patiala, shared with the audience his views on the role being played by FDI in the past and in the current global scenario.

The importance of corporate governance in FDI and its impact on the Indian industry was also touched upon.

He gave examples of nations like Japan and explained how the Japanese Industry used FDI to cater to the needs of its own people.
