Fearful of bad result, BCom student ends life

punjab Updated: May 06, 2014 20:01 IST

Apprehending bad result in his BCom first year examination, a 20-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his house in Islam Gunj on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Beant Patel, was pursuing graduation from Kamla Lohtia College.

Sub-inspector (SI) Rajinder Parsad, additional station house officer (SHO) at Division Number 2 police station, said Patel returned home on Monday after spending holidays at his native village, and went to sleep later at night. On Tuesday, when he did not open the door, his family members peeped in through the window and were shocked to see him hanging from the ceiling fan.

The family sounded the police who reached the spot and initiated investigation.

The SI said according to Patel's family, he was worried about his result, as he had not performed well in examination, adding that he was also struggling to get a job.

The Division Number 2 police handed over the body to the family after the autopsy.
