The Aam Admi Party (AAP) held a rally at Guru Har Sahai, an assembly segment of Ferozepur district, on Saturday. A large number of workers of the party attended the rally.
The meeting was held 96 hours before the scheduled rally of former Congress chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
Addressing the rally, Sangrur MP and AAP leader Bhagwant Mann said, "It's ridiculous that even after seven decades of freedom, successive and even present governments in the state as well as at the Centre have failed to facilitate basic amenities of life to common man. Freedom only fetched prosperity for those who enjoyed power, be it political or bureaucratic. Even bread, education and health services are yet a luxury for a majority of people," he said.
"Instead of working for the welfare of the general public, the Akalis as well as BJP leaders are allegedly busy in minting money through illegal means,", the AAP MP alleged.
"Punjabi farmers are facing the worst phase as the Punjab government has failed to pay to sugar growers while the cotton crop has been badly damaged and rates of basmati have touched the lowest point," said the party's state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur.
"Akali and BJP leaders are directly involved in the drug trade, hence a large section of youth has become drug addicts," said Harjot Singh Bains, AAP's state youth wing chief.
