Fifth kabaddi world cup in December, says CPS

The Punjab government will organise the fifth edition of World Cup Kabaddi in the first week of December, with 17 countries competing for record prize money over a fortnight, chief parliamentary secretary Gurbachan Singh Babbehali has said here.

The opening ceremony would be on December 6 at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar, and the closing event on December 20 in Bathinda, the CPS said. Teams from India, the US, England, Canada, Pakistan, Spain, Denmark, Iran, Argentina, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Germany, Turkmenistan, and Belgium in the men's section and India, the US, England,

Denmark, Pakistan, New Zealand, Mexico, and Azerbaijan in the women's category have signed up.
The top three awards will be Rs 2 crore, Rs 1 crore, and Rs 51 lakh in the men's section, and Rs1 crore, Rs 51 lakh, and Rs 25 lakh in the women's category.

The state government had approached International Olympic Committee to get the sport included in the Olympics, said the CPS.
