It’s official now — The monsoons have arrived. The tricity, which had been battling a dry spell for some weeks now, awoke to the pleasant pitter-patter of rain on Wednesday morning.

The weather department said monsoons, which had remained suspended from July 4 to July 11, have now entered Chandigarh and other parts of Punjab. The normal date for the arrival of monsoons is June 29. This time they were delayed by 13 days.

Apart from providing much-needed relief, rain also resulted in traffic chaos in several busy junctions across Chandigarh. (Keshav Singh/HT)

In 1987, the delay was even longer and the monsoons had arrived a month late. The weather department had gone wrong with many predictions regarding rains in the last few days, but this time it was spot on.
