Finance and contract panel members likely to be elected in House meet

As the much-awaited House meeting is scheduled to be held on December 20, the members of Finance and Contract Committee (F& CC) will be elected likely this time.

However, several meetings were held, but these members were not elected, since this House was formed more than two years ago.

Despite the request of the House members, two councillors have not been elected so far. There are six members of F&CC, including mayor, senior deputy mayor, deputy mayor, two councillors and MC commissioner.

Along with development works, including construction of roads and general works, the proposal regarding jobs to the kins of deceased MC employees can also be presented in the House.

According to the sources, the proposal to introduce luxury, beautification and other taxes can also be presented in the House as per agenda. Sources also said the House could also increase the licence fee for shops in the city.

It was also learnt that the House can present proposal regarding lands for a city college and for dispensary. Besides, the discussion on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) can also be held at the upcoming House meet.

The councillors are also preparing themselves to raise their issues during the House meeting.

A councillor, Inderjit Agarwal, said, “This House meeting will be very important as the councillors will get a chance to raise their issues. It will be good if FCC election is held this time.”

“We will also demand from the House to the extend date for submitting property tax of 2013-14 till March 31, 2015 without any penalty. Besides, MC should also extend date by March 31 to recover the pending dues of House taxes, water and sewerage services.”

Mayor Harchran Singh Gohalwaria said the House can elect members unanimously. “If the process could not take place then we can also announce next date for election,” he said.
