A day after an Enforcement Directorate (ED) official investigating the money laundering angle in the Jagdish Bhola drug racket was transferred, Congress leader Bir Devinder Singh has hit out at Union finance minister Arun Jaitley.
He said the transfer order had hit the credibility of the finance ministry; and that Jaitley was dismantling the ED probe team on the sly under pressure from the drug mafia. “ED official Niranjan Singh’s moving from Jalandhar to Kolkata when he was close to completing his report after questioning revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia has provided the Badal family relative with protective umbrella,” Bir Devinder added.
He accused the Union finance minister of even supporting the drug mafia to scuttle the outcome of the ED investigation in Punjab. “This is in return for the Akali support to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Delhi assembly election campaign. This kind of political opportunism is criminal and anti-national,” he said.
The Congress leader requested the Punjab and Haryana high court to intervene as the Supreme Court had done several times to protect the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) teams working on high-profile cases.
