Fire breaks out at cotton mill in Ludhiana; 3 including minor killed

Around 12 persons including a pregnant woman also got serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.

Three persons, including an eight-year-old girl died while a woman was injured after a fire broke out at the godown of Parasnath wool factory on Ghoda road near Cheema chowk in Ludhiana in wee hours on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as 45 year-old Maan Bahadur, his 19 year-old son Kishan and 8 year-old granddaughter Babita. The family belonged to Nepal.

Bahadur’s wife Seema, who had fallen ill due to suffocation and injuries, is undergoing treatment at Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital.

Besides, around 12 persons including a pregnant woman also got serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Fire officer Rajinder Sharma said the fire broke out at around 12:30 am and there was no emergency exit at factory.

“It is suspected that the fire broke out due to short circuit,” said Sunil Jain, owner of the factory.
