A major fire broke out in the forest area of Ladhowal on Friday evening. A huge number of trees and plants grown in the forest were gutted in the fire.
It was people, who live in the adjoining villages, who informed the fire brigade and forest department about the fire that broke out around 4.30.
It took two fire tenders three hours to control the flames. Following information of the mishap, forest and police officials also reached the mishap site. Fortunately, the stretch of forest, which is near Hardy's world, an amusement park, does not have any animals. The reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Forest officer Jarnail Singh said the flames could have broken out due to heat. He said plantation on around eight acres of forest land was gutted in the fire.
