Panic gripped the posh Ranjit Avenue area when a gunshot was fired in a café, few metres from a police post. Though nobody was injured in the incident, the bullet hit a pane in the café. The police have also recovered an empty cartridge from the spot.

A case under Sections 307, 34, 506 and 427 of the IPC and Arms Act has been registered against two suspects, who have been identified as Jaskaran Singh Sodhi and Sahil Kumar.

In his complaint to police, one Amarbir Singh said, "At about 7.30 pm, I and my friend came to the coffee shop in Ranjit Avenue, where Jaskaran and Sahil were allegedly consuming liquor. They came to our table, produced a pistol and fired a shot allegedly with an intention to murder."

There was some old dispute between the two groups, police said. Following the incident, a police party reached the spot and found an empty cartridge there.

Confirming the incident, civil lines station house officer inspector Manjeet Singh said, "We have registered a case against the suspects and efforts are on to nab them. The shot was fired inside the coffee shop."
