A day after the arrest of two persons in connection with firing at a youth near Amar Hotel at Sector 22 about a month ago, the police said the accused were using blue beacon atop their car to influence people and extort money from them.

Police said during interrogation, accused Sarabjit Singh alias Rocky, 25, and Manpreet Singh alias Monu, 22, claimed they used to befriend boys and girls in discotheques, before extorting money from them on one pretext or the other.

Police said they had come across some photographs of the accused with an Akali councillor of SAS Nagar and investigatiosn were on to find out how close accused were to the councillor.

Police said the gang had various hideouts in Zirakpur and Kharar. The police had raided flat number 207, Opera Garden, Dhakoli, where neighbours of one of the accused told the cops that he used to claim that he was a DSP with the Punjab Police and had pictures in uniform.

Sector-17 SHO inspector Udaypal Singh said the gang had a Facebook page where they posted pictures of holding blood donation camps and other religious programmes to misguide people that they were into social work.

Police said the kingpin, Rocky, told them that they had bought a country-made pistol from Meerut. Police said the same weapon was used to open fire at Deepak Saini near Amar hotel in Sector 22 on the night intervening on October 25 and 26.
