Fishing contracts net Rs 20 lakh revenue: DC

Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Paramjeet Sidhu today said that open auction of fishing contracts for notified water reservoirs in the district during 2011-2012 had netted Rs 20 lakh revenue for the exchequer.

Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Paramjeet Sidhu said on Monday that open auction of fishing contracts for notified water reservoirs in the district during 2011-2012 had netted Rs 20 lakh revenue for the exchequer.

"During this year, 45 hectares have been added to area under fisheries in the district and a target was set to harvest 6,320 tonnes of fish." He said that 5,951.40 tonnes of fish had been produced till the end of February," he said while addressing a meeting held here.

The DC added that 646 persons were provided intensive training about fish farming during the year and ample subsidy had been provided to the interested farmers to set up their own fish farms.
