The district police have arrested five people allegedly involved in the murder of Mohd Tanvir of Malerkotla on July 19 last. Senior superintendent of police MS Sidhu said at a press conference here on Wednesday that they were arrested at a police naka put up after a tip-off about them at the Jarag Chowk in Malerkotla, under the supervision of station house officer (SHO) Satnam Singh of the city police station-1.
When the SHO saw three motocycles approaching, he signalled the motorcyclists to stop at the naka. When they stopped, the SHO recognised them and immediately arrested them on the spot, the SSP added.
During investigation, it came to light that the arrested included the gang leader CBZ alias Sharp Shooter alias Mohd Rizwan, who is Class-8 pass, and his four accomplices Mohd Sultan alias Baggi (Class-7 pass), Mohd Shahbaz alias Mota (Class-12 pass), Abdul Guffar alias Mantri (Class-8 pass), all residents of Malerkotla, and Jawed Khan alias Samint of Amargarh, who is a graduate. All are in the age group of 20-30 years.
The police recovered one.32-bore pistol with ten cartridges, one .32-bore revolver with 10 cartridges and two pistols of .315- bore with two cartridges.
The police have also recovered three motorcycles from them, which they used for travelling to Chandigarh, Delhi, Shimla and Gujarat. The five confessed that they used to stay in Hotel City Inn at Kajheri village in Chandigarh from where they would travel to the above places in two groups.
The police recovered a Splendor motorcycle (PB 19 K 7586) from Mohd Rizwan, a Pulsor bike from Javed Khan (PB 13 AA 3187) and Honda Activa (PB 13 AM 2155) from Mohd Sultan alias Baggi and Mohd Shahbaz alias Mota.
The SSP said the police have now arrested all the accused mentioned in the first information report (FIR) in the Mohd Tanvir murder case. Now, only one accused Binda Majriwala has been absconding.
The SSP further said Tanvir was hit by three bullets, fired by Mohd Ajmal alias Actor, Mohd Rizwan and Mohd Sultan.
The police are verifying the details about one licensed weapon seized from them, added the SSP.
