In a bizarre incident, five persons allegedly beat a 40-year-old man to death for allegedly playing loud music at Vijay Nagar on Tajpur road on late Thursday night.

The accused are at large since the incident.

The Basti Jodhewal police have registered a case of murder against the five accused.

The deceased, Jagannath, is a resident of Vijay Nagar. He used to run a snacks cart.

The accused have been identified as Ajay alias Pawan, Charan and Bachittar, and their two unidentified accomplices.

In her complaint to the police, Ramwati, wife of the victim, said their neighbour, Moti Lal, had organised a party to celebrate his son's birthday, where her husband, among other guests, were dancing. Meanwhile, the five accused came to the party and threatened her husband to lower down the volume of music. Ramwati alleged that the accused were in an inebriated condition.

“After reducing the volume, my husband and other guests returned to dancing. But, the accused returned and thrashed my husband with sticks,” Ramwati alleged.

“Having received serious injuries, my husband lost consciousness. I, along with our kin, rushed my husband to a private hospital, where he succumbed to injuries in the wee hours of Friday,” she added.

The police were sounded, following which assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (east) Dhruman Nimbale and Basti Jodhewal police station house officer (SHO) inspector Balwinder Singh reached the spot in initiated investigation.

The SHO said efforts were on to nab the accused.

Jagannath is survived by a wife and three daughters Kunti (18), Bantri (13) and Amita (9).

The deceased hailed from Birlagram village in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. His family had been living here for the past over two years in a rented accommodation.
