Five persons have been booked for extorting money from three-wheeler drivers to allow them to commute in the Ladhowal area. The accused charge rs40 from each three-wheeler.
Annoyed with the extortion, the three-wheeler drivers have got registered an FIR at the Ladhowal police station against the accused in this context on Wednesday.
The three-wheeler drivers have also submitted a memorandum to the police commissioner in this context, demanding arrest of the accused. The police have booked Gurtej Singh of Bhattiyan Colony, Hardeep Singh of Hazuri Bagh Colony, Lakhwinder Singh of Bhattiyan Colony, Gurjeet Singh of Cheema Colony and Mani Kumar of Guru Har Rai Nagar,for extortion following the complaint of one of the auto drivers Charan Das alias Binder Kumar of Salem Tabri.
In his complaint,Charan Das said the accused stop three-wheelers commuting in the area and extort `40 for passing. The accused used to thrash the three-wheeler drivers for not paying money. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sukhdev Singh said the police have registered a case under section 384 (punishment for extortion) against the accused and have initiated investigation.
