Five booked for making minors work

The city police have booked five people for making seven minor boys work. Sanjiv Kumar, a resident of Bazaar Kesrian; Montu, a resident of Guru Bazaar; Chitranjan, a resident of Uttam Market; Heera Ram Dolly, a resident of Guru Bazaar; and Rafeek, a resident of Subhash Market near Guru Bazaar; have been booked under Sections 362/370/374/34 of the IPC, Protection of Children Act, Sections 23, 24 and 26 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, and Sections 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 of Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act,1976.

The case has been registered on the complaint of the assistant labour commissioner, Amritsar. Sub-inspector Sukhdev Singh, of E division police station, said seven children were found working with the accused.

"The children are in the age group of 11 to 13 year. They were recovered from the Guru Bazaar area," he said. He added that the children have been identified as Lovely, a resident of Dhuti village, Tarn Taran; Deepak, a resident of Mahalapur Balia, UP; Lovekush, a resident of Lucknow, UP; Rakesh, a resident of Bobakpur; Rahul, a resident of Madan Pur village, West Bengal; Bulla, a resident of Hurali village, West Bengal; and Karan, a resident of Lucknow.

He added that a committee formed by the Amritsar deputy commissioner had recovered the children. "Efforts are being made to arrest the accused," he said.
