Five-day PSPB Hockey tournament at Jalandhar from today

Five-day 30th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter Unit Hockey tournament sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation will commence from Wednesday at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium here.

Interacting with media today, RK Arora, general manager of the IOC looking after the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh said that it was a privilege for the IOC to host the prestigious PSPB hockey tournament for the 30th consecutive year.

He said that some Olympians and prominent hockey players like Olympian Harpal Singh, and international players like Gurvinder Singh Chandi and Diwakar Ram from ONGC, world cupper Tushar Khandekar and international players like Ravi Pal Singh, Hari Prasad and Birender Lakra from BPCL, Olympians Devesh Chauhan, Deepak Thakur, Prabhjot Singh, world cuppers V Raghunath, Nitin Kumar and internationl players like Baljit Singh, Inderjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Roshan Minz, SK Uthapa, Manpreet Singh and Kothajit Singh, from IOC will be the members of their respective teams.

In the tournament, six teams comprising IOC, ONGC, EIL, GAIL, BPCL and Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPC) are taking part, he added.
The matches will be played on league and knockout basis in two pools of A and B comprising three teams in each pool with two halves of 35 minutes each.

Semi finals and finals will be played on knock out basis, Vikramjit Singh, an expert associated with the PSPB said.

He said the tournament will be played strictly in accordance with the rules and norms laid down by the Federation of Indian Hockey.
