Five held for robbery, cops recover jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh

The police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 3 lakh from their possession.

The police also confiscated three stolen motorcycles, Rs 1 lakh in cash, two revolvers along with 10 live cartridges, an air pistol, iron rods and lock cutters as well.

Senior superintendent of police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said a team, acting on a tip-off, raided the sanctuary area of Suniarheri village and arrested the five of the accused. The remaining six are yet to be arrested.

The accused have been identified as Kulwinder Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, both residents of Bhadson, Deepu, Shaaka, natives of Patiala and Aasha alias Baba of Kharar in SAS Nagar.

After a preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to committing several robberies and dacoities in and around Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur districts.

Chauhan said several criminal cases were already registered against all the accused at different police stations in these districts.
