Five cricket players from city based cricket academy Nursery of Cricket Centre for Excellence, PAU were selected at Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence, Noid a trials for which were conducted at Delhi and Chandigarh.
From the u-12, u-14, u-16 and u-19 age groups, the selected players will be attending a coaching camp at Nangal , Himachal Pradesh from June 7-28.
City’s Navkirat Singh, a wicketkeeper batsman is the only player who was selected for his batting, while the rest were selected for their spin bowling skills-Karanveer (medium fast bowler), Luvish (medium fast bowler), Dilpreet (spinner right arm off-spin) and Jaskaran (medium fast bowler) in the trials which were conducted from May19-20 at Delhi and 28-29 at Chandigarh.
Players from Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gujarat, Nagpur and Rajasthan among other cities also took part in the trials out of which about 200 players took part in the trials held at Delhi where three players from the academy got selected while 325 participated at Chandigarh where two players from the city were selected by professional coaches.Amrik Nagra,head coach at the Nursery of Cricket, said, “The selection of the players was made on the basis of overall temperament of the player with major emphasis on physical fitness. A team of seven professional coaches were available at the trials who monitored the fundamental skills and players’ attitude towards the game”.
“At a special training camp in 2012, Karanveer Dhillon, a product of the same academy had attended a camp at cricketer Andrew Flintoff ’s cricket centre in England for his all-rounder skills in the game,” Nagra added.
