Five members of a gang arrested with weapons in Moga

The district police claims to have arrested five members of an inter-state gang including a woman on Thursday near the play ground of DM College here.

Police officials said that the police have also recovered various types of weapons and stolen motorcycles from the possession of the gang's members.

Jatinder Singh Khaira, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Moga said that the police had received a tip-off on the criminals who were allegedly planning a robbery.

DSP Sandeep Sharma said that when police team reached near the play ground the accused tried to flee from the spot but after a long chase the police arrested them.

The police recovered one .32 bore pistol, one .315 bore gun, 2 stolen motorcycles, one scooter, iron rods and various types of sharp edge weapons.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had robbed money, gold ornaments, mobile phones and several vehicles on the gun point at various places across Punjab.

Police official said that Lovepreet Singh Labha kingpin of the gang, Baljinder Singh Banti, Nikka Singh, Baldev Singh and Sukhraj Kaur have been booked in this connection.

"Further investigation is underway at the moment and the accused have been remanded to police custody," said Sharma.
