Five of family die in Nawanshahr road mishap

In another horrific road mishap, five persons of a Nakodar based family were killed while one was injured, when a car they were travelling in collided with a tipper truck in Jadla village of Nawanshahr district on Chandigarh-Jalandhar highway today morning.

The deceased were identified as Ravi Kishan (60), his wife Suman Lata (58), their son Sunny (28) and daughter Kishu (24), and Kishu's one-and-a-half-year old son Aaryan.

Sunny’s wife Hitu sustained serious injuries and was admitted to IVY hospital.

According to information, the swift dzire car was being driven by Sunny and they were going back to Nakodar after attending a marriage function in Kurali.

Around 6.30 am near Jadla village, the car collided with a tipper truck, filled with sand, coming from opposite side.

The collision was so strong that Ravi, Suman, Sunny and Kishu died on the spot while Aryan succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Sunny’s wife Hitu was admitted to nearby IVY hospital in a serious condition but was said to be out of danger now. After the accident, the truck driver managed to flee away from the spot. The dead bodies were taken to civil hospital for post-mortem examination.

Investigation officer, Surinder Kumar said that a case has been registered against truck driver which is yet to be identified, under sections 279 (rash driving), 304 –A (causes death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of IPC.

He said that police have launched investigation to nab the accused truck driver.
