Five of two gangs of vehicle thieves' arrested

As many as five members belonging to two gangs of interstate vehicle thieves were arrested on Friday. Stolen goods were also seized from them.

Surmukh Singh, a resident of Ambala, was arrested by the Patiala Police. He had bought three stolen trucks from Ramesh Chand Gaur - another member of the gang who has been arrested.

About five copies of blank registration certificates, a fake registration certificate, a fake permit, and two rubber stamps of Patiala district transport office were seized from Surmukh Singh.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Hardial Singh Mann said Singh used the trucks to smuggle liquor from Chandigarh to Gujarat.

"The police have earlier arrested four accused in this case," said Mann.

He said the gang allegedly stole trucks from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Mann said they managed to uncover two other gangs using leads from this gang which was busted before diwali.

In another case, four residents of Rajasthan were arrested and a Bolero and two Swift cars were seized from them. The accused are as Firoz, Sunil Kumar, Om Prakash and Kamlesh.
