Police on Thursday said they have busted a gang of robbers by arresting five out of its seven members on the Rajpura- Sirhind Road.
They said they also recovered four pistols with 12 live cartridges and a white accent car from them.
Superintendent of Police (detective) Jakarnajit Singh Teja said based on a tip-off police on Wednesday raided an abandoned petrol pump near Faridpur village where the gang was planning a robbery. Four robbers, he said, were arrested on the spot while the rest managed to flee.
The accused have been identified as Pritpal Singh, Amandeep Singh alias Aman, Kulawant Singh alias Sunny and Amrinder Singh alias Money.
Another gang member, Deepak alias Deepu, who was among the absconders, was nabbed later and a 315 bore local-made gun was recovered from him on Thursday.
Other robbers of the group, Harjinder Singh alias Jinder and Gurjant Singh alias Jatta, are still on the run.
Teja said they have registered a case under various sections including the arms act against the accused.
He added that a number of cases already stand registered against the gang at various police stations, and added that interrogation revealed that they purchased the weapons from Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh.
