Five robbers arrested

The local police have arrested five thieves, including two members of an inter-district gang, and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh and two motorcycles.

The local police have arrested five thieves, including two members of an inter-district gang, and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh and two motorcycles.

Stating this here on Thursday, DSP Jagan Nath Banga and Satnampura SHO Karnail Singh said the gang members had been identified as Sarbjit Singh of Talwandi Sabo, presently residing in Hadiabad sub-town, and Munish Kumar of New Abadi Narangshahpur.

They were arrested on Wednesday under sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. They were on one-day police remand.

The police recovered one LCD, two DVDs players, two digital cameras, nine mobile phones, one iPod, one gold ring, a pair of gold earrings, a TV, an electronic gas oven and a microwave from them.

Five other members of the gang were arrested on February 14 and valuables worth Rs 3 lakh recovered from them. Kingpin Sunny, Rohit Thapar, Avinash, all of Hadiabad, and Kulbir and Manjit of New Abadi Narangshapur are in judicial lockup.

Three other thieves arrested on Wednesday were identified as Balwinder of Mithra village, Jalandhar; and Manpreet and Ravi Kumar, both of the local Bhagatpura Mohalla.

A Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle was recovered from Kamal and Lucky, while a Hero Honda Splendour motorcycle was recovered from Ravi, the police said.

The arrest was made under sections 379 and 411 of the IPC. They were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
