Flight between Chandigarh and Dharamshala likely to start in March

At present, one flight operates in the Delhi-Shimla and Delhi-Kullu sectors each.

Air connectivity between Dharamshala and Chandigarh is likely to start in March. Sonum Norbu, director, Dharamshala Airport said, “Public carrier Air India is likely to start the Delhi-Chandigarh-Dharamshala flight in March and the process to facilitate this is on.”

He added that besides this Spicejet is also likely to add one more flight in the Delhi-Dharamshala sector.“We are expecting two more flights between Delhi and Dharamshala in March,” Norbu said. Currently, three flights operate on the Delhi-Dharamshala sector—two of Air India and one of Spicejet.

Himachal Pradesh has two other airports in Kullu and Shimla districts. At present, one flight operates in the Delhi-Shimla and Delhi-Kullu sectors each.

Airlines often increase flights on the Delhi-Dharamshala sector during tourist season to cash in on visitors.

At times, the number of flights between the national capital and Dharamshala goes up to six in summer. Meanwhile, people engaged in the hospitality industry feel that the flight connecting Dharamshala with Chandigarh will boost tourism in the region.

“Roads in Himachal are often in a bad shape. Because of this tourists are reluctant to travel via road. Direct connectivity with Chandigarh will help save time,” said Prem Sagar, a travel agent
