The district police claim to have made foolproof security arrangements to ensure that the Republic Day function passes off peacefully in Gurdaspur on Tuesday.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, here on Monday, Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Toor said the personnel of the Punjab Police, para military forces and 30 members of SWAT have been deployed in the area to ensure security as well as to instill a sense of being safe in the people.
The SSP said checking was conducted at the railway station and the bus stand in Gurdaspur on Monday, while the security nakas put around these places were strengthened. “In the wake of January 2 terrorist attack on Pathankot Air Base, the red alert is already in place in Gurdaspur district,” the SSP said, adding that suspected elements and places had been put under surveillance by the security forces in the area.
“All the vehicles entering the town were being checked up thoroughly at all the entry points,” the SSP said.
Replying to a query, the SSP said following the reports of having seen terrorists in the military fatigues, the search operation being carried out from January 6 in the villages around the Tibri Military Station was still randomly on.
