All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and Batala MLA Ashwani Sekhri on Sunday urged the party leadership to form a high-powered "damage-control committee" to deal with the problem of resignations after the new list of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee office-bearers was released.

Speaking to HT, Sekhri said he felt that the opposition parties had planted their men in the state Congress party just before the upcoming general elections.

He said he had received calls from at least 40 senior Congress leaders across the state who had complained that many who worked against party candidates during the assembly polls were given high offices.

He further claimed that many of the new PPCC office-bearers were those who joined the Congress recently. He said none of the senior party leaders contacted the disgruntled leaders to ask about their grievances.

Sekhri said he along with senior party leaders Mohinder Singh Kay Pee and Raj Kumar Verka would meet in New Delhi the AICC general secretary and party affairs in-charge in Punjab Shakeel Ahmad on Monday to demand the formation of a damage control committee consisting of senior leaders to overcome the crisis.
