Former Block Samiti member murdered, son injured

A former SAD Block Samiti member was reportedly murdered while his son was seriously injured by six people while they were returning from Wadala Granthian police post under Sekhwan police station after lodging a complaint against the accused, on Tuesday night.

According to information, former SAD Block Samiti member from Manoharpur village, Amrik Singh, along with his son Dharminder Singh, had gone to a marriage at the adjoining village, where they indulged in a spat with some youths.

When they returned, the youths came to their house and started abusing them and threatened them of dire consequences.

Feeling scared, the two went to Wadala Granthia police post and lodged a complaint against the accused and later when they were coming back, they were attacked by same youths with sharp-edged weapons during which Amrik Singh died on the spot while Dharminder Singh was seriously injured.

Later, the accused took Dharminder to the house of Amarbir Singh at Manoharpur Leera village, where he was confined and beaten up mercilessly.

On getting information, police rushed to the spot and found Amrik Singh lying in a pool of blood.

After getting tip-off, the police team led by SHO, Sekhwan police station, Tersem Singh raided the house of accused and found Dharminder tied in a room. He was rushed to civil hospital, where his condition was said to be critical.

The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against Amarbir, Prince, Badshah Bir, Lovepreet and four unidentified people, who were absconding yet.

Batala SSP Inderbir Singh said the police parties had been dispatched to various places and all the accused will be arrested within 24 hours. Dharminder had got married three weeks ago.
