Former Congress MP Charanjit Channi joins Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab

Former Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) here on Wednesday. Welcoming Channi into the party fold, head of the AAP’s legal wing Himmat Singh Shergill said with the induction of honest people like Channi, they will definitely win the elections in Punjab.

Addressing the media, Channi said he was joining the party unconditionally. Channi won the assembly elections from Nawanshahr in 1997 as an independent candidate, and won the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha seat in 1999 on a Congress ticket. Channi had distributed a record `14 crore from his MPLADS funds in his constituency during his tenure. Channi’s father Dilbagh Singh had been a seven-time MLA.
