Police arrested four people, including two women, on charges of murdering 65-year-old Vijay Kumar Verma at Chowk Bazaar locality here, on Friday.
The body was handed over to Verma's family members after the post mortem examination.
Superintendent of police (SP) Ramesh Chhajta said that the preliminary investigations revealed that the accused, namely Sumit and Amit, along with their mother Sudesh and sister Mona, after minor altercation over straying of their pet dog into Verma's premises, killed the man.
The accused were tenants of Verma. The altercation started after Verma's son Sanjeev and daughter Anita asked the accused not to leave their pet dog open in the premises as it would bite the students visiting their house for coaching. This infuriated the accused, who allegedly started thrashing the duo. After hearing their cries, Verma tried to rescue his children and during the fight, one of the accused allegedly made hit him with an iron rode, killing him on the spot.
Chhajta said that a case had been registered under section 302 and 323 of India Penal Code.
