Four arrested for snatching in Amritsar

Amritsar: The city police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of four persons.

“A drive was launched to curb the menace of snatching and we succeeded in arresting four people. They have been identified as Harmanpreet Singh, Sarwan Singh, Lovepreet Singh and Rahul,” additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-II) Gaurav Garg said at a press conference here.

The ADCP said the accused were involved in recent incidents of snatching and the police have also recovered snatched material from them.

“Sarwan and Harmanpreet had snatched a bag in Ranjit Avenue area whereas the other two snatched a purse from a woman near Mall Road. The purse contained cash and mobile phone,” Garg said.

The ADCP said efforts were being made to curb the menace of snatching which is giving a tough time to residents and tourists to the city.

The police are learnt to have enhanced vigil in the Civil Lines area while starting night checking.
