Police have booked four persons on charge of keeping in illegal detention a woman whose son had married a young girl from their family against their wishes.

On the complaint lodged by the youth's brother Jugraj Singh, the Ghiana Ke Banger police got freed his mother and later registered a case under Sections 342, 506 and 34 of the IPC against the girl's father Sahib Singh, her grandfather Kashmir Singh, her brother Pargat Singh and a relative Sucha Singh, who were absconding.

Fatehgarh Churrian DSP Kirpal Singh said that Gurmeet Singh of village Thathey had tied the knot with Kirandeep Kaur of the same village a fortnight ago even though they were from different castes.

After getting to know about the love marriage, the girl's relatives had been threatening the youth's family, forcing the couple to stay away from the village, Jugraj said. "On Wednesday morning, when my mother was alone, the parents of Kirandeep barged into our house and locked her in. When she raised an alarm, they fled the spot," he added.
