Four farmers suffered bullet injuries in a clash between two groups of farmers over the sharing of water of a channel of the Abohar branch canal, near Gholia Khurad village of Moga district on Monday.

The injured have been admitted to hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.

One of the victims, Jaswinder Singh of Gholia Khurad, said some residents of Rauke Kalan village came in a Scorpio and a Balero and started firing at them. "I was working in the fields of Sukhraj Singh when Sukhdev Singh, Gurdial Singh, Chamkaur Singh and Charanjit Singh of Rauke Kalan opened fire on us after a heated argument," he said.

Interestingly, Sukhdev Singh has levelled similar allegations against the rival group.

Nihal Singh Wala SHO Partap Singh said that a few days ago, some farmers of Rauke Kalan had blocked the water channel used by Gholia Khurad residents to irrigate their fields. "The panchayats of Gholia Khurad and Rauke Kalan had persuaded the two groups to settle for a compromise. The firing occurred after Sukhraj and his partner Jaswinder Singh opened the channel on Monday," he said.

The injured have been identified as Jaswinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Sukhjinder Singh and Gurdial Singh. No arrests have been made so far.
