Four held with 400-gm heroin in Jalandhar

Officials of the special staff of the commissionerate police arrested four drug peddlers with 400-gm heroin on them at Basti Bawa Khel locality of the city on Sunday. The narcotic is estimated to be valued at `2 crore in the international market.

The accused has been identified as Jarnail Singh alias Cherry of Batala, Tirath Singh of Kot Gobind village in Kapurthala, Surinder Singh of Jagraon in Ludhiana and Sukhdev Singh of Baghela village in Jalandhar district and have been remanded in two-day police custody.

Sources said the accused were nabbed at a barricade (naka) near the Kapurthala Chowk on a tip-off. Two bike-borne youths were stopped for frisking and 300-gm heroin was found on their person in a polythene bag and also parts of the bike. The accused have been identified as Jarnail Singh and Teerth.

In another naka by special staff on the Jandiala road, Surinder and Sukhdev were arrested with 100-gm heroin and a bike.

Cases have been registered against them under various Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), with the police claiming that the accused have cases also pending against them.
