Four killed, 13 injured in separate accidents

Four persons were killed and 13 injured in separate road accidents in the past 24 hours in Patiala district.

On Tuesday morning, a PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus allegedly crashed into a mini canter on the Patiala-Samana road, killing canter driver Varinder Singh on the spot, while passengers of the bus received multiple injuries.

Both the vehicles were on way to Patiala from Samana when the accident took place.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the canter failed to notice the bus behind it and took right turn abruptly, said investigation officer Jagtar Singh, as a result of which the driver of the speeding bus failed to control the vehicle that crashed into the canter's cabin and also damaged nearby trees.

Of the 13 injured, eight were rushed to the Samana civil hospital, while four admitted at Government Medical College here.

The driver of the bus received serious injuries and was referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.

In another incident, Amarjit Singh of Dhaithal village was killed after an unidentified car hit his motorcycle on Monday.

He was taken to a Samana hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

In yet other accident, a farmer, Manjit Singh, was killed when an unidentified car reportedly hit the vehicle he was travelling in.

Singh was rushed to a private hospital in SAS Nagar, where he succumbed to his injuries.Singh was on his way to home at Randhawa village from his fields when the accident took place.

A scooterist, Gurjeet Singh, was killed when a SUV allegedly hit him on the Patiala-Dakala road on Monday.

After hitting the scooter, the driver of the SUV lost control over the vehicle and overturned consequently, injuring the SUV driver seriously.
